Welcome to Construed – a critique of modern entertainment
Dictionary definition of Construed:
1.to give the meaning or intention of; explain; interpret.
TV, comic books, music, movies, videogaming & the Internet.
Each of these has played a big part in expanding my view of the real world & the fantastical one, as well entertaining me, as I have grown up. From the late ’70s when I was taken to the cinema for the first time, my first comic book to the first band that I saw live in the ’80s & my introduction to videogaming/Internet in the mid ’90s, each has left a lasting impression upon me.
I have now been entertained, in one way or another, by the modern world for over 30 years & if I, like you, were to be honest with myself, I am still hunting, constantly looking for new & exciting ways to be entertained.
So Construed is my look at modern entertainment. You can expect to find mention of any of the 6 entertainment topics(noted at the start of this post), that still colour my life to this day, in future posts. Those topics aren’t an inexhaustible list by any means, as I’m sure there will be opportunities for me to write about other areas of modern entertainment – here at Construed.
Finally, in closing, I’d like to welcome you all to this new site – be you a brand new reader or one of the old guard from my Sweet Flag writing days, the welcome is just as warm.

You might just have started an internet meme DM.
First Film (that I remember): Sleeping Beauty. Bizarrely I was almost brought to “Soldier Blue” when I was very young but thankfully the ticket seller had enough sense to convince my father (an avid fan of cowboy movies) that the film was definitely not appropriate for a six year old.
First Comic: Could have been Beano / Dandy or such but the first comic that I remember taking pride in getting was called Wizard.
First Live Band: Hm… First “famous” band I ever saw live was U2 but I was at plenty of backstreet gigs by unknown and long forgotten bands before that.

@ mbp – NO! Don’t mention meme…argh! Thinking back I use to read Whoopee! comic at a friends house that after school, never really liked beano or Dandy.
Back to Construed…hopefully it will be a place I can bring entertainment genres, that may not seem to be connected, together in one place.
