New feature at Construed: Comic Book Review
Beginning next week, you’ll begin to see a new weekly feature here at Construed – the Comic Book Review.
After a number of recent discussions with the online comic book retailer, Comic Domain(based here in the UK) I can announce a unique partnership between the retailer & Construed which will help in the coverage of the Comic Book Review:
- Comic Domain have agreed to supply a weekly selection of various comic books(indie & mainstream) to me with the understanding that I cover them in the Comic Book Review.
- Comic Domain plan to link to the Comic Book Review posts here at Construed, via a yet to be determined section on their homepage – strong possibility that that section will be named, Reviews.
- This partnership is an unpaid affair on both sides & is an exercise in cross-publicity only.
I should get my first bundle of comics early next week & aim to have a weekly review of them for you all to read, slotted in probably on a Friday/Saturday.
Comic books have been an ever-present aspect of my growing up, since I got 2000AD delivered with my parents paper back in the early ’80s, right through the late ’90s with titles including The Sandman, Hellblazer, Yummy Fur & of course the main-staple of Marvel & DC superhero titles.
Just lately, say the last 4-5 years, I have been reading less & less printed material. I have lost touch with the comic book scene to some degree & have regretted doing so a number of times with the last title I bought being some Fables back issues.
I hope this new feature will give me ample opportunity to explore the breadth of the comic books now being published & I hope too that it will aid a number of you out there that, like me, have a soft-spot still for the medium.
Look out for the first Comic Book Review, sometime late next week.

Can’t wait to see what gets reviewed. I have been popping my head in my local comic book shop every once in a while lately (local = 30 minutes away, every once in a while = once every three months).
Something you should check out, is “House of Mystery” .. from Vertigo/DC (same imprint Sandman was on).

PacoDG – thanks for the heads-up, looks like that title has had a long life(1950’s to ’80s) but the Vertigo imprint began in July 2008. From what I have read about it, it seems right up my alley.
Have you been reading it from the start?

Well, they did a re-release, so it is a new series to me (I seen that it did have an old run, I’m not sure how much the same the new one and old one are). So yeah, I’ve been reading from the start of the new series. It is up to issue 6 or 7 right now I think. I’m missing issue 5.. but its okay, as the way the comic works, is they are pretty much self contained stories.
Basically, there is The House of Mystery (made by Cain from Sandman), and each issue someone within the house tells a story. But there is an overall storyline going on to have some continuance, like some chick who has entered the house wants out.

Cain seems to have a long history throughout the DC universe & I know he has appearences in a number of Sandman issues – which reminds me, I’ll have to re-read my collection.
