Real estate keeping Heroes afloat?

My interest in watching Heroes while season 3 has aired, pretty much died after the first few weeks. I have missed many of the episodes from season 3 but have just caught back to back episodes, Into Asylum & Turn & Face the Strange , both of which I have enjoyed in a casual viewing way.

But like you, I’ve heard the rumours about the show being cancelled by NBC. Interestingly enough, ratings may not be the main factor for keeping this show from being canned. SF Universe have an interesting take on Forbes TV’s Biggest Moneymakers:

The tale of ordinary people who suddenly become superhuman generates $4.3 million per average telecast, thanks to a largely young male demo that many advertisers find attractive. That pricey real estate puts Heroes in the top 10 most lucrative shows on TV, joining hits such as American Idol and Dancing With The Stars.

Could this be an insight into how Heroes can resist the continued loss of ratings per each season aired?

  1. I fell in love with Heroes in Season 1. I painfully sat through season 2. When Season 3 began I watched the first episode and vowed not to watch it again. I didn’t cancel my DVR timer however and when there is nothing else to watch on my 270 channels I will watch one. Overall this season has been moderate at best with a few good episodes. Unfortunately, Heroes is following the “Lost” model. New episodes only introduce more questions and zero resolution. I had hoped at mid-season when they brought in the other writers that things would improve but they have not. I was a huge fan in Season 1, sadly I probably won’t even miss Heroes when it’s gone.

  2. Heroes is already confirmed for at least one more season (at a reduced 20 episode run). Not like the show deserves any of that. I’ve written ad naseum on my blog on why I hate Heroes as it stands now.

Look on the bright side, Bryan Fuller can at the very least create an entertaining season 4.

  3. It certainly isn’t the quality of its plotting OR writing that’s keeping it going. I’d knock the acting but most of the poor buggers are doing their best with what they’ve got.

  4. Heroes fails for me when too many characters are introduced into the mix – the 1st season maxed out on this.

Balancing the focus so that more non-power characters got a chance to develop, would have been something I’d have made sure of. And by that, I don’t mean turn the show into some soap opera!
